IPL Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How should I prepare for an IPL photofacial treatment?
A: Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 35 for two weeks before your treatment and avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning. We recommend waiting two weeks after recieving Botox injections or filler to have an IPL photofacial. Discontinue prescription and over-the-counter chemical exfoliants including retinoids and alpha- and beta- hydroxy acids for two weeks before the treatment. Also discontinue physical exfoliation for two weeks. Inform the doctor and aesthetician if you have any medical conditions or are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications.
Q: How many treatments do I need for my desired results?
A: Depending on your skin type and desired results, we recommend two to three treatments for the most complete results. For acne treatment, three to five treatments may be necessary.
Q: How long should I wait between treatments?
A: You should wait 7 to 14 days between IPL photofacials.
Q: How often will I need "touch-up" treatments to maintain my results after a series of IPL photofacials?
A: We recommend doing maintenance IPL photofacials every 6 months depending on your needs, but wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen will help you to maintain the results of your photofacial and prevent future skin damage.
Q: My pigmentation has darkedned after I had my IPL photofacial. Should I be concerned?
A: No, this means that the IPL photofacial has effectively targeted your pigmentation, and it's the desired result. Normally the darkened pigment sloughs off the skin after 14-21 days.
Q: What can I expect after the IPL photofacial treatment?
A: Normal post-IPL side effects include darkening of pigment, swelling, and redness. The darkened pigment is expected to slough off after 14- 24 days or sooner, and the redness and swelling typically resolves after 24 to 48 hours.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser Skin Resurfacing, also known as Fractional Non-Ablative Skin resurfacing, is effective for skin texture problems including scars, acne scarring, melasma, stretch marks, and wrinkles. It also stimulates collagen production. Fractional resurfacing technology has advanced considerably within the last decade, and the latest technology allows for the stratum corneum to remain in place, minimizing discomfort and preventing excessive heat accumulation, while still providing dramatic results. Visit the website of Palomar Medical, the manufacturer of the Artisan Laser System, to see more before and after pictures and clinical studies.
